Info on how to learn the Indonesian language
If the character in the novel is an Indonesian speaking to another Indonesian and the person addressed is a stranger or someone of higher social standing, he/she might say "Tolong saya, Pak" or "Bantu saya, Pak". However, if the person addressed is a foreigner, instead of "Pak" the Indonesian might say "Tuan" or even "Mister". Especially if the person is asking for financial assistance.
"Tolong saya, Bapa"
bantu saya Pak (short for Bapak, and less formal)
i will help if i can
If it is someone you know well you could say:
bantu gw bang / bantu gw pak
it depends on if it is your friend you are asking or a stranger?
If it is your friend, you can use less formal language. If it is a stranger especially an older person, you need to use more formal language.
"Tolong aku, Pak!"
"Tolong saya, Bapak!"
Aku=saya-me
Pak is the shorter form for Bapak whick means Mr.
Hope this helps.
