Indonesian Language Help: “Selamatan”?

Hi! I have to write a short essay for my Indonesian language class about "selamatan" (written in Indo, that is.) The problem is, I'm not really sure what a selamatan is!

If anyone could give me some really detailed information in Indonesian or English about selamatan, that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Just to clarify, I'm talking about the type of celebration for various occasions... I understand that they can be held for weddings?

Informal Indonesian translation!?

I'm having difficulty understanding these examples of informal Indonesian, written in what seems to be internet slang. Could someone please translate to English??

jadi yg tadi earthquake beneran? gw kira angin

iya nih.. tadi kerasa gw d rumah.. kaget gw..

haha nelson dnak isa ngomong indo...

Thanks in advance.

Quick Indonesian to English translation?

That should be "English to Indonesian translation". Sorry!
Is there an expression in Bahasa Indonesia that is equivalent to the English "you know" or "y'know"? Just looking for an Indo version of those verbal fillers that we use in daily conversation...

I have read somewhere that the phrase "gitu lho" might be appropriate but I don't know if this is correct.

Thanks in advance.
